Set up an in-sourcing solution in order to manage the Raw Material portfolio in terms of safety and selection optimisation.


CLIENT

A global cosmetics company specialized in consumer care products.


CONTEXT

The company wishes urgently to better manage its Raw Materials portfolio: increasing safety, reducing the risks of single sourcing and streamlining its management, in accordance with evolving regulations (REACh, CLP, 1223/2009...).

Over and above its current growing R&D activities, the company has to manage and review a large amount of information within a short time period, due to a very competitive environment.

A new organization has been set up, based on ProductLife’s ability to build and pilot an in-sourced team.


OBJECTIVES

  • Optimizing the portfolio of raw materials (rationalize, harmonize and reduce the number of raw materials)
  • Qualifying an alternative sourcing for critical raw materials in order to reduce associated risks of using a single or a too limited number of suppliers for critical raw materials
  • Accelerating the qualification process for the whole company
  • Enhancing supplier relationships.

ORGANIZATION OF THE MISSION

ProductLife set up an in-sourced organization and specific processes with suppliers and clients, to contribute to the client’s risk assessment, thus delivering several dozens of new raw material qualifications or updates every year.


RESOURCES

ProductLife’s in-sourced team is made up of experts in the following areas: Toxicology, Analytical development, Microbiology, Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance, Technical Development, Pilot/ batch release, Data Management, and Formulation.


RESULTS

Our team has successfully identified alternative suppliers for our Client by putting in place an optimized process for backlog follow-up.

Main issues are:

  • Manufacturer identification if the supplier is a distributor company
  • Getting the available regulatory information from the suppliers.


Sharing raw materials priorities with our Client was one of the keys of the success of this first project phase. It naturally leads us to participate in the second phase of the project which is reformulating some products.
