Information System Governance in R&D

Why is governance necessary?

The concept of IT governance is a transposition of the notion of corporate governance. The objective of IT governance is to view the information system as a whole, at all levels of its lifecycle (project, maintenance, change control, etc.)

In the pharmaceutical R&D domain where traceability, the implementation of processes and project management are ongoing daily concerns, this approach aligns naturally with the business constraints and requirements associated with the need to have data available for inspection and also for corporate transparency in terms of the benefits and risks of the products.

In the area of information system governance in the R&D domain, Product Life's assignments focus on four key areas.

1- Planning and developing information systems

The process of planning and developing an information system involves defining the functional architecture of the applications on a global level, in order to integrate all data and re-use software components.

2- Project management support

The project manager is responsible for the functional expression of requirements, and must clearly define the objective of the project, its contribution to the improvement of Company processes and specific challenges in addition to the schedule and budget allocated to the project. It coordinates the activities of the management committee.

3- Project management office

The PMO or Project Management Office groups together all of the project management tasks, manages project portfolios (prioritisation, dashboard, etc.) and defines all of the necessary quality and validation processes.

Product Life's contribution in this domain

Product Life's consultants have expertise in each of these areas and will guide you through each task, from comprehensively mapping the information system, to defining maintenance structures and providing support for project management tasks.
